The Peoples Democratic Party has disowned Mr. Afolabi Olawole, who won the rerun election conducted in Offa Local Government but later rejected the victory.
At a media conference in Ilorin on Thursday, the Secretary, Kwara PDP, Mr. Yemi Afolayan, said Olawole was no longer a member of the party as at the time of the election.
He said he had defected to the Action Congress faction of the All People’s Party, and that he was an agent of the APC during the rerun election.
He also said that the PDP candidate for the election for Shawo South West was Kamarudeen Olagunju.
Kamarudeen also affirmed that he was the PDP’s candidate in the Offa rerun election in Shawo South West ward. He further claimed that he won the election.
But the APC Chairmanship candidate in the Offa LGA rerun election, Mr. Saheed Popoola, insisted that Olawole was a PDP candidate.
“We ask the PDP to answer these posers: whose name did the KWASIEC display as the PDP candidate for the ward? Anybody who has seen the list of PDP councillorship candidates will see that Mr. Afolabi Adewole Jimoh was conspicuously listed as the councillorship candidate for Sawo South West Ward. He was number six (6) on the list.” He said.
He added: “Also, can the PDP change candidate for a rerun election? Is that allowed under the law, except in the event of death, and maybe, voluntary stepping down of that candidate, which he must communicate to the electoral body? The answer, of course, is No!”
