On Wednesday, Second Republic Senator, Chief Onyeabor Obi, said that the over-bearing influence of political godfathers made the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to record misfortunes in Anambra.
Obi told newsmen in Awka that Anambra belonged to the PDP, but the conflict of interest among its numerous godfathers affected the party in recent elections.
He said that other political parties cashed in on the protracted intra-party crisis to wrest power from the party in the state.
According to him, godfatherism in the politics of the state was beginning to take its toll on the interest and participation of the electorate as their votes did not determine who became a party flag-bearer.
He said the party would begin to take its pride of place the moment the rule of one man one vote was respected with minimal interference from the political godfathers at home and abroad.
Obi called for a change of attitude among the political-class, who see politics as a means of actualizing private agenda instead of service to the people. On the composition of South East delegates to the constitutional conference, Obi said it was okay, pointing out that there was no way every shade of interest could be carried along.
He however, said that the number of the delegates to the conference was too large for any serious business.
