The Moto G is here, Google’s third phone for the year and it was announced at the Motorola ‘On Display’ Event. The phone is being marketed as a ‘budget premium’ device, for the people who like to have top-notch features on their smartphones without the attendant high prices.

So what does this phone offer that makes it unique? Well, for one, CEO of Motorola Mobility, Dennis Woodside says that the Moto G is designed to change the half-and-half norm, in that the phone is from a top-range producer – Motorola, now defunct - with the latest technology. So this is not just a cheap ‘chinko’ phone, nor is it a premium device with some features stripped down.

The Moto G is designed to both be premium and easy on the pocket.

This is one of the best deals, tech-wise for Africa, and unfortunately, Nigeria is not included in the list of countries this phone will be available for. The phone will be available for Ghana, though – just not for Nigeria.

Given that Nigeria accounts for an expected 40% of all smartphone purchases in Africa in Nigeria, this makes some wonder if this is a wise omission.

Some of its coolest features include:

A 4.5 inch, 720p LED display with 329 ppi. The phone comes with a dual-sim sibling for countries that prefers that sort of thing. The camera is a 5mp deal with face detection and HDR. You can take photos while using the video recorder. The front-facing camera is 1.3mp. Depending on the kind purchased, the Moto G comes with either 8 or 16 GB memory which is not expandable. Worried about the memory limit? I forgot to add that the Moto G comes with 65 GB Google Drive space.

The processor is the 1.2GHz Quad-core processor-speed, Snapdragon 400 processor with 1GB of RAM. The battery is a 2070mAh battery which can take you through a day with regular use.
