Head coach of Delta Tennis Association,Henry Ubochi has called on the National Tennis Federation(NTF) to introduce championships across all the states to enhance the growth of the sport in Nigeria.
Ubochi explained that such leagues will help states reposition itself and popularise the sport even at the grassroots, adding that it will discover and nurture new talents from the grassroots.
"There is nothing wrong if every state association can come up with a league to promote tennis in the country.
"This is one of the measures we need to put in place to revamp and popularise the sport.
"More talents can be identified and nurtured to represent the country at international competitions, through a feasible league,’’ Ubochi said.
He added that organising and sustaining of state leagues would accelerate the introduction of a national league by the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF).
He however said that ITF should bear in mind the problem of inadequate funding as a major challenge to state associations in organising feasible leagues. (NAN)
