A lie told by the Nigerian lawmakers accused of sexual misconduct while attending a leadership program in Ohio, US has been exposed, a ThisDay report says.
Reports say the 10 lawmakers were interrogated by officials of the US State Department over allegations of sexual misconduct as against three of their colleagues. Hon. Mark Gbillah, Hon. Samuel Ikon and Hon. Garba Gololo were accused of soliciting for sex during the trip. They were interrogated in April 2016 before they returned to the country.
This negates any claims by the lawmakers that the allegations were brought to their attention when they returned to Nigeria.
ThisDay added that the US State Department is in possession of more than just ‘verbal evidence’ against the three men.
However, the House spokesperson, Hon. Abdulrazak Namdas, said he wasn't aware that the lawmakers were interrogated while in the US.
The House is on holiday and will reconvene on the 12th of next month.
