Van Persie scored a hat-trick that day, but it was his second that was adjudged the best by players who had scored more than 100 goals in the division.
The former Arsenal captain, received the award at a Legends of Football event in London, which celebrated 25 seasons of Premier League football and raised money for charity.
“It’s a huge honour,” he said.
“It’s the hardest league in the world.
“On a goal like that, you don’t really think about it. You just want to make the most of it and see what happens. But you need a bit of luck as well.
“It was the first title I won and it was a huge moment for Manchester United. What I like about that goal is the whole story that was behind it.”
