The Alliance for Democracy (AD), has said Nigeria has recorded significant achievements within 15 years of uninterrupted democracy, to warrant the country to celebrate Democracy Day.

The National Secretary of the party, Mr Rafiu Salau, made the remark in Abuja on Wednesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

According to him, what the nation has achieved under democracy cannot be achieved under any other type of government.

``Since the nation started practicing democracy in 1999, Nigeria has been enjoying cordial relationship with other democratic nations of the world.

``Democracy has encouraged privatisation of some public assets which has made things affordable to the general public.

``People express their opinion publicly these days which was not easy during the military regime, which made many people to speak from exile.

``Nigeria is now on the path to becoming an emerging economy, this is as result of the opportunity provided by democratic government.

``Each state in the federation now aspires to compete with others in many areas of development like education, internal generated revenue as a result of democratic rule,” he said.
