A political battle is brewing in Enugu state as over 20 persons have been lined up to replace the former Deputy Governor of the state, Sunday Onyebuchi who was recently impeached by the state House of Assembly. DAILY INDEPENDENT has this story.
About 20 persons have begun to lobby for the position of Deputy Governor of Enugu State less than 48 hours after the incumbent, Sunday Onyebuchi, was impeached by the state House of Assembly.
According to sources close to Government House, Enugu, most of those angling for the post are from Nkanu East Local Government area where Onyebuchi hails from.
Earlier before Onyebuchi’s impeachment, pressure groups and political blocks had insisted that irrespective of what their brother (Onyebuchi) may have done, the post of the Deputy Governor must be left for the people of Nkanu East. To take the job elsewhere, they contended, would amount to a deliberate attempt by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to deny the area of what rightfully belongs to them.
