The Adamawa government on Sunday inaugurated conflict resolution committees for the 21 local government areas of the state.

Inaugurating the committees in a ceremony in Yola, Gov. Murtala Nyako tasked them to work selflessly toward identifying and resolving conflicts through dialogue in their areas.

The governor was represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Integration, Hajiya Halima Mohammed who said government would continue to preach peaceful approaches such as dialogue as effective way of resolving conflicts and misunderstandings in the state.

The governor lauded the traditional institution in the state for its commitment to peaceful coexistence, pointing out that the establishment of the office of the Sarkin Matasa (Youth Leaders) for the mobilisation of youths against indiscipline and other vices was a welcome development.

He said the state government had mandated the Ministry of Women Affairs to collaborate with the youth leaders to inculcate discipline in youths.

In his speech, the Youth Leader in the Adamawa Emirate Council, Alhaji Abdul-Aziz Nyako, urged members of the conflict resolution committees to live up to expectation by justifying the confidence reposed in them.

He also praised the efforts of the state government and security agencies toward peace and unity among the diverse people of the state. (NAN)
