Algeria became the latest African team to fall by the way side after surrendering their lead to lose 2-1 to highly rated Belgium in their first game of the 2014 FIFA World Cup tournament.

It was a game that the Desert Foxes looked like they were going to cause an upset in,but they couldn't hold hold for long before Belgium came from behind to claim the victory.

A first half penalty from Sofiane Feghouli gave the North Africans the lead but that was as much as they got before handing over the initiative to Belgium.

An inspired substitution from Marc Wilmots saw Belgium begin the comeback. In the 70th minute, substitute Maroune Fellaini got the right connection to head in an equaliser from a Kevin de Bruyne's cross.

Belgium went for it and the impressive Dries Mertens fired in a cracking strike to give Belgium the lead and seal a dramatic win.

Ivory Coast now remains the only African team to have won its first game with the other four failing to show up in their matches.
