Rotimi Amaechi, Rivers state Governor said he fasted and prayed for 10 months before becoming governor.

Addressing the congregation on Sunday during a church programme at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Region 5 camp tagged “A Day out with the God of the General Overseer”, Amaechi said he had taken to enlightening and evangelizing to people on how God’s intervention eventually made him Governor of Rivers state.

He said, "I will evangelize. I know most people will be surprised because I am not a pastor. So, in this case, I am part of the evangelism. One of the ways I have evangelized is to repeatedly tell people my past experiences of God’s intervention when I fasted for 10 months, 6am – 6pm, praying to God to come down. That was how I became Governor. I went to court. Instead of the court to say, Amaechi go and contest election, the court says Amaechi go and be the Governor of Rivers State. And because, I say to the public about my experiences, a lot of people now believed that if they focus on God, God will hear their prayer. So, I am also evangelizing by testifying to the public about the Glory of God in my life.

The Governor urged worshipers to pray for River state saying, "What I want you Christians to do for us is to pray for all of us as a state, so we can come out of the crisis disturbing the peace of the state. Please, also pray for those who have not receive Christ to repent and change from their evil ways.

Wrapping up the service, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, expressed his love for Rivers people, saying that they occupy a very special place in the plan of God and charged them to imbibe the fear of God and work towards peace and harmony in the state.
