• Gunmen kill 53 in attacks on villages, bullion van
As the Federal Government hosts an international conference on security, gunmen had field-day in Kaduna and Delta states yesterday, killing 53 people.Bandits suspected to be Fulani herdsmen yesterday unleashed terror on two villages in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State, sending 38 people to their early graves. In Delta State, robbers attacked a bullion van, killing four policemen and 11 civilians.
Sanga Local government Chairman, Emmanuel Adamu, who confirmed the casualty figure, said the attacks started at about 10pm on Monday up to the early hours of yesterday, describing the incident as barbaric. “The attacks lasted for several hours, claiming the lives of 21 people at Kabamu village and 17 at Ankpong villages,” Adamu said.
He condoled with the bereaved families and appealed to people of the local government to remain calm as security measures were being put in place to forestall re-occurrence.
