Femi Adesina, Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs to President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday told PREMIUM TIMES that his boss did nothing wrong by taking his son on an official trip.

Adesina said, ''There is absolutely nothing wrong with the president travelling with one of his sons. It is an acceptable and standard practice. He could go with up to four members of his family. Don’t forget that when former President Bill Clinton visited Nigeria while he was in office, he came with his daughter, Chelsea.

''President Barak Obama travels with his children and so the President of Nigeria can travel out with three or four of his children. Late President Umaru Yar’Adua used to travel with two of his sons and one of his grandchildren,” he said.

Yusuf Buhari was part of the President's delegation to Washington DC.

The issue is not about taking his son for an official trip. The issue is about cutting overhead cost. APC made so much noise during campaign that the former government spends so much money on oversea travels with the number of aides that goes with them.

APC should at least stick to the 'best practice' now that they are in power. As far as I'm concerned, nothing has really changed.

What is the 'best practice?' Best practice according to you, or by the examples cited by Adesina? Please don't be an incurable pessimist. PMB shed 50% of his salary, people said it was a drop in the ocean. Now, traveling with a son will suddenly harm Nigeria's economy!

Best practice as in what Nigeria needs at this moment -reduction in cost of governance. Jonathan also slashed his salary while he was President. Besides, the slashed 50% doesn't return to Nigerian economy.

@Alabi, let's forget about politics for now and talk as Nigerians. PMB went to the US with about 30 people, including my state governor (I wonder what my governor has got to do with the trip to America). At the end of the meeting, they couldn't secure an arms deal with the US. The question we should be asking is; what are the benefits we got from the meeting as a nation? Why can't the delegation be lesser in number?

I have said it that I have no issue with him taking his son along. A 73 year old man is old enough to always have his trusted son around him. To me, his son would be his best PA.

Buhari went with about 300 people (Daily Mail). You didn't count heads of parastatals and other governmental agencies. The American trip to me is a waste of time and effort, unless we start seeing results in a month. Why go with such large crowd?

Moreover, I agree we need to cut the cost of governance but those are not the right words for the action. The only thing govt should do is block leakages and eradicate wastage in government spending.

We have so many uncompleted projects lying around, these are examples of the wastage. We need credibility and serious pragmatism in government parastatals and agencies. If there's a punishment for embezzling funds and not completing projects, I believe then we'll start to see the result of good governance.

My 2 kobo.

Alabi, it's good to support the president but we need to be realistic. Although we don't know exactly what goes on in government circles but if things go as they should we ought to see and feel the good outcomes.

We as Nigerians need to get past the hero worshiping and sycophancy. We need results, only results can speak for you. It doesn't matter if one womanizes or is a drunkard while studying, if he graduates summa cum laude, it's believed he did well in school.

Let's stop getting distracted with Buhari's clothes or shoes and look at the actions and reactions he takes that'll affect the country as a whole.
