Sports CHAN 2016: Tunisian Head Coach Eyes Super Eagles Scalp

Carthage of Tunisia head coach, Hatem Missaoui, has vowed to stop the Super Eagles of Nigeria from scoring when the two sides clash in Friday’s second Group C game at the African Nations Championship in Rwanda.

The Tunisians were only able to secure a point in their first game against guinea, which ended 2-2 on Monday, while the Eagles of Nigeria demolished Niger 4-1 on the same day, and the North Africans need a win to revive their hopes of moving to the next round.

Missaoui admitted that Chisom Chikatara is a fine striker but insisted that he also has Ahmed Akaichi, who can equally score great goals in difficult situations.

“We are not looking forward to defending against a player in the Nigeria team, we have our tactics to stop the Super Eagles from scoring goals,” Missaoui said.

“What we are targeting is qualification to the next round of the competition and not just a victory against the Super Eagles.

“Nigeria have a good striker in [Chisom] Chikatara but we also have our own top scorer, Ahmed Akaichi, who scored the two goals against Guinea. He can get goals against the Super Eagles too.”

He however said all the teams in Rwanda are favourites to lift the trophy come February 7.

He said: “The Nigeria side is a very good team, we know how big they are and we are very ready to play them. We hope Friday match goes well for us.

“We are not just targeting the win against Nigeria, but qualification to the next stage, if we get the victory that will be fantastic for us.”
