Chelsea Manager Antonio Conte, on Friday stated that the club is not thinking about reopening contract talks with Nigerian international, John Obi Mikel, because it's not a priority at the moment.
Mikel has spent a decade at Chelsea, and is in the last year of his current contract. Conte's body language suggests Mikel won't be getting another contract extension at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking with reporters, Conte said is “normal” for Chelsea not to have opened contract talks with Mikel.
“Now? Have I spoken to him now? No. No. No but, I repeat, now it’s important to be focused on the championship in this period.
“We are in November. It’s important to be focused on the pitch. Then, we can focus other situations in time. It’s normal in every squad, there are players who are towards the end of their contract, and they and the club together take a decision on their futures.”
