Edo State To Establish Two New Universities

Two Bills for law to establish two universities scaled through second reading in the Edo State House of Assembly in Benin on Tuesday.

Out of the two varsities, one would be university of education to be located at Ekiadolor in Ovia North East Local Government Area of the State.

Leading the debate for the bills, the Majority Leader of the House, Mr Philip Shaibu, said the universities, when established, would be run under a Public/ Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.

Shaibu (APC- Etsako West), added that the two universities would be fee paying as quality education was not free anywhere in the world.

He said the institutions would provide employment for people and boost economic activities in their respective locations.

The bills received the unanimous support of other members who spoke.

The Speaker of the assembly, Mr Uyi Igbe, referred the bills to the House Standing Committee on Education with a mandate to submit its report on March 26.
