One Mr. Chris Elvis of No. 7, Adetola Adelaja Street, Meiran area of Lagos,Nigeria has allegedly beaten his four-year old son, Godrich to death, padlocking his mouth to prevent him from shouting while the beating lasted.

Elvis allegedly locked his son in a room, padlocked his mouth and beat him to death with an object that inflicted deep cuts all over his body, claiming that the boy was an Ogbanje.

Ogbanje is an Igbo word for "children who come and go". Ogbanje's are believed deliberately die and then come back and repeat the cycle causing the family grief.

The case was reported to the police station by his landlady, Mrs Popoola. The police stormed the house around 9 O’clock last night to arrest Elvis who was about to escape.

Godrich's corpse was found in a locked room where Elvis had kept it.

According to PM NEWS, Mr. Olusola Adejumo, husband of the landlady said that the deceased boy was four years old and that the man had been acting strange since he packed into the compound last year.

According to him, when Elvis came into the compound about six months ago, he came with his children and wife. In the first two weeks of his stay in the house, he beat up his wife thoroughly.

After he was reported at the police station and threatened with arrest, Elvis promised never to meet his wife again.

Adejumo explained that sometime ago, the man traveled with his family and did not return with his wife, but came with the four-year old boy and another woman, whom he claimed was now his wife because he had parted ways with his former wife.

He said that yesterday, the new wife rushed out of the house with Elvis on her heel chasing her with a cutlass and calling her "witch", the wife was shouting for help claiming that Elvis wanted to kill his son.

After he had successfully chased the wife outside,he went back into his room and locked it, padlocked the boy’s mouth and beat him till he died.

The boy’s corpse has been deposited at the Ota General Hospital, while Elvis is been detained at the police station pending further investigation.

The landlady who reported the matter to the police is also being detained and N50,000 is being demanded for her mail.
