Before the Grammy Awards on Sunday night February 8, 2015, no one could have imagined 22 years old Sam Smith would emmerge the biggest winner at the awards.

The British soul singer won four different awards: best newcomer, best song and best record for Stay With Me, and best pop vocal album for his debut In the Lonely Hour.

Although, Smith was considered a favorite for best newcomer awards he faced fierce competition from from Taylor Swift’s “Shake it off” for best records, a category which applauds engineering and and performance and production.

On stage at the Staples center after Smith was handed one of his awards he said “Before I made this record I was doing everything to try get my music to the world I tried to lose weight and was making awful music. It was only until I started to be myself that the music flowed.”

Obviously, Smith wasn’t expecting four Grammys in one night, but all that is history now…Sam Smith is the biggest winner at the 57th Grammy Awards!
