According to the Chairman, State Committee on House Numbering and Street Naming, Dr Sulaiman Wali, the Kano State Government is contemplating to issue identity cards to all residents of Kano aged 15 years and above.

“The State Government is looking at the plan seriously as it will enable it to know who and who are resident in Kano’’, he said.

Wali said the identity card would enable a resident to identify himself or herself on request.

He said the committee had already enumerated 50 per cent of the houses within the eight metropolitan local government areas in the state capital.

He also said that the committee had started fixing house number plates in six of the eight local government areas, and that the exercise would commence on Friday or Saturday in the two remaining areas.

He added that the exercise would also include the numbering of all plots and uncompleted structures.

“This will also enable government to know what the plots will eventually develop into and whether they conformed with the approved plan.’’

Wali, who is also the Permanent Secretary in the Government House, Kano, said the exercise was aimed at resuscitating and harmonising the long standing relationship between the traditional rulers and their subjects.
