Some concerned citizens from the 44 local government areas of Kano State on Tuesday dragged Gov. Rabi’u Kwankwaso to the Federal High Court, Kano.
The group said in a statement of claim that they took the action following alleged non disbursement of the local governments’ funds amounting to N255 billion.
The group said it was unconstitutional and illegal for the governor, whether by himself or through his officers, to withhold local government funds.
They cited sections 162 subs (5), (6) and (7) of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
When the case came up for mention, the Presiding Judge, Justice Fatin Riman, adjourned the case until Feb. 5 to hear an application filed by the counsel to the Attorney-General of the Federation.
The counsel to the Attorney-General of the Federation was challenging the process of how his client was served.
The governor is the defendant alongside the Attorney-General of the state, Kano State House of Assembly, Attorney General of the Federation, among others.
Other co-defendants in the case include: the Senate, House of Representatives and 44 local government councils in the state.
