Nigeria - Lagos schoolkids might be in for a treat as the state Governor Akinwunmi Ambode made provision for the 'one meal a day' scheme for them in the 2016 budget.

This is in fulfillment of the promise the governor gave when campaigning.

Ambode yesterday presented a budget of N662.588 billion for the year 2016 to the House of Assembly, pledging to implement the budget faithfully, and also ensure that it works in the best interest of Lagosians.

The governor allocated 17.11 percent of the budget to the education sector. This amounts to N113,379,337,664. He added that the state will kick off the 1 meal a day scheme for schoolkids.

“This programme promises not only to improve the daily nutrition of our children, it will also create an economy of its own, with opportunities for job creation, income generation, poverty alleviation, and so on”.

“I am happy to inform you that in 2016 we will develop our e-Curriculum, leading to the distribution of Ibile Tablets to students in our public schools. This revolution, at the Secondary School level, will set a new standard in our educational system, and further enhance the knowledge of our children to enable them compete effectively with their peers in developed countries”, the governor said.
