MINISTRY TO EDUCATE NIGERIANS ON BENEFITS OF CLEAN COOKING STOVES

A conference on renewable energy was organised by the Federal Ministry of Environment to enable the sensitisation and knowledge acquisition of Nigerians on the importance of using clean cooking stoves.

Mr Taiye Haruna, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, made this known to members of the press and also added that the ministry would enable the achievement of this goal with the partnership of several stakeholders in the private sector.

The Minister made it known that an annual renewable energy day in Nigeria in order to enable the sensitisation and education of alternative sources of energy.

He said, "On that day, we are going to create awareness on the use of clean cooking stoves; these are some of the programmes we have and we are partnering with the private sector also."

He also made it known that a "strong" delegation had been sent to the United Nations conference on Climate Change in Warsaw, Poland, implying the seriousness of the Ministry in taking a more powerful outlook on other sources of energy than fuel.
