Some nominees to the National Conference arrived in Abuja on Sunday and commenced accreditation for the conference.
The nominees will be inaugurated by President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday.
A few of the nominees who spoke with the press expressed satisfaction with the accreditation process and urged Nigerians to have faith that the National conference will yield good results.
Chief Nkechi Mba, President of the National Council of Women Society (NCWS) expressed confidence that the conference would bring about the empowerment of women in the country.
"We have been asking the National Assembly to pass the Bills so that the 35 per cent affirmative action becomes law. I hope with this conference, women will speak with one voice, Nigeria will be united and there will be peace in the country. With these few issue that we are presenting, the women are very confident that through this National Conference, we will be heard,’’ she said.
Former Chief Judge of Taraba, Justice Adamu Aliyu, said he foresaw a better Nigeria through the conference.
"I foresee a better Nigeria because we are all converging here to dialogue so that all our differences will be sorted out. Even in a family, if there is any problem, we sit down and talk and I’m assuring you, we are going to get the best out of this conference’’, Aliyu said.
Former Acting Governor of Anambra state, Virgy Etiaba expressed satisfaction with the accreditation process, describing it as "smooth".
Etiaba said in spite of some misgivings, Nigerians should give the different groups expected at the conference a chance to discuss their grievances and fashion out acceptable solutions to the country’s many challenges.
"We’ve gone through the first 100 years as a country and for those 100 years, we were just moving with the pace of the colonial masters and the agenda they set for us. This conference is a way to have Nigerians come out from their nooks and crannies to decide our fate and future; people should come and air their grievances’’, she said.
