The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has forwarded the names of nine eligible applicants to the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria and Chairman, Judicial Service Commission, Walter Samuel Onnoghen, for appointment as Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
This followed a rigorous process of shortlisting done by a select committee chaired by the President of the NBA, Abubakar Mahmoud, with eight other eminent lawyers as members, according to Channels TV.
Applicants shortlisted by the NBA for appointment as Justices of the Supreme Court are:
1. Dr. Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), who was called to the bar in 1978 and hails from Anambra State
2. Mr. Anthony Ikemefuna Idigbe (SAN), who was called in 1983 and from Delta State
3. Yunus Ustas Usman (SAN), who hails from Kogi State and was called to the bar in 1983.
4. Babatunde Fagbohunlu (SAN), who hails from Ondo State and was called to the bar in 1988
5. Miannayaaja Essien (SAN), from Rivers State and was called to the bar in 1985
6. Awa Uma Kalu (SAN), from Abia State and was called to the bar in 1978.
7. Prof. Awalu Hamish Yadudu, who was called to the bar in 1979 and from Kano State
8. Tajudeen Oladoja, who hails from Kwara State and was called to the bar in 1985
9. Ayuba Giwa, who hails from Edo State and from Edo State.
The applicants were shortlisted from a total of 89 Expressions of Interest that were scrutinised.
