Sahara Reporters says that the Ondo chapter of the PDP experienced a deepening crisis situation when President Jonathan came to Akure to campaign and declined to raise and hand over the flag of the party over to the National and state legislative candidates who were also campaigning for the February 28th election.

The paper mentions that President Jonathan, last Wednesday, similarly refused to hand over the flag to party candidates (which is really a symbolic thing to do) due to the lasting control game between members of the "Old PDP' and the 'New PDP.'

This crisis came about when Olusegun Mimiko decamped from Labour Party to PDP.

President Jonathan has asked his aggrieved party members to resolve their differences. Seeing as the party was split in two, between those loyal to Mimiko and those who were on the side of the old leadership, President Jonathan refused to announce the list of the party's candidates for the national assembly.

He said: “We appreciate we have issues as a party in Ondo state and we will resolve the issues, but if we don't work together, you will be surprised that [the] other party will exploit it and none of us will be happy."
