Greg Nwidam, Chairman of Khana Local Government Council and Demua Ledee Demua, Chairman of Gokana Local Government Council have been arrested by the rivers state police command in connection with Sunday’s violence in Bori, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers state.
Nwidam’s Press Secretary, Patrick Nwika, has confirmed that his boss, who he described as non-violent and a complete gentleman, and Demua were being detained by the police. Nwika said the two council chairmen were invited by the police on Monday and as law-abiding citizens, they honoured the invitation, only to be asked to wait for many hours, later asked to write statements and subsequently detained.
The Chairman of the SRM, Charles Aholu, has described the arrest and detention of Nwidam and Demua as the height of intimidation and lawlessness.
The arrested men are said to be staunch allies of the Rivers state Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.
