Prince Adedayo Adeyeye, while the president-elect was still campaigning for President in January, declared that before the Yoruba people should vote for General Buhari, he (Buhari) must first apologize for his unrepentant 'hatred' of the Yoruba race.

The minister of state for works said: “Buhari did not only cancel the Metroline project, he went ahead to pay what was enough to complete the project as compensation to the French company that handled the project.

“The idea of developing rapid transit in Lagos dated from the 1980s with the Lagos Metroline network conceived by the Alhaji Lateef Jakande during the Second Republic.

“The Metroline project was scrapped in 1985 by Buhari at a loss of over $78m to the Lagos tax payers. Information on the Metroline Project is on Wikipedia for everyone to see.

“If Buhari had not cancelled that project out of hatred for the Yoruba people, transportation in Lagos would have been better than it is now and one can begin to imagine the number of lives and investments that had been lost to Buhari’s wickedness.

“Everything that Awolowo did for us in Yorubaland, Buhari undone. Buhari was even planning to merge the University of Ibadan with Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife when he was removed”.

This is especially curious considering that the president-elect has often worked with Yorubas for his reelection campaign, and he also worked with a Yoruba man - Tunde Idiagbon - when he was head of state. As most will recall, his VP-candidate in 2011 was pastor Tunde Bakare, and his VP-elect is Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

General Muhammadu Buhari also worked with people like Bola Tinubu, Obasanjo and Fashola to secure his reelection bid.

APC's response to the Minister of State for Works was: “Buhari has contributed more to the development of the nation. Most of the federal roads in Ekiti, including Ondo, were duly tarred with high grade materials by the Petroleum Trust Fund under Buhari as the chairman."

“To show our respect for Awolowo, our Vice Presidential candidate, Prof. Yemi Osibajo, is a grand son in-law to the late sage."

“Adeyeye should tell us which of the federal projects we are enjoying from Jonathan. Even he (Adeyeye) as the minister of works, many federal roads were awarded without Ekiti getting any."

“He should tell us what Ekiti would benefit from him as the Minister of State for Works and not tell us who to vote for because he is not qualified to speak on behalf of Ekiti people.”

One might idly comment that Buhari may be using Yorubas as a means to an end.
