Nigeria - Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a former Governor of Kano State Governor, has denied being placed under house arrest by agents of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In a statement signed by his private secretary, Muhammad Inuwa Ali, Kwankwaso said he was neither invited nor prevented from discharging his legislative or personal duties by either the EFCC or any other agency

The former governor blamed the rumors on those he described as political detractors who want to cause a rift between him and the anti-graft agency.

He explained that some of his political opponents had written a petition against him to the EFCC when his supporters sought his permission to institute legal action against the said petitioners and he consented.

He said to his surprise, “The supporters and their lawyers instituted an action against the EFCC instead of restricting the case to be against the petitioners (our political opponents)”.

“Senator Kwankwaso has instructed his supporters and their lawyers to discontinue the matter against EFCC with immediate effect, while the unfounded libelous case against his person will continue,” he stated, stressing that he is ready to support and strengthen anti-graft agencies in the fight against corruption in Nigeria
