The US government has issued a warning to airlines to beware of attempts to smuggle explosives onboard through the use of footwear.
While Homeland security hasn’t issued specific threats, the warning has been targeted at flights coming into the US from abroad.
This is the second time in recent weeks that the US has warned about the increased chances of an airline explosion.
A Briton, Richard Reid, in 2001 attempted to blow up a flight from Paris to Miami with explosives stashed in his shoes.
"Our security apparatus includes a number of measures, both seen and unseen, informed by the latest intelligence and as always DHS continues to adjust security measures to fit an ever evolving threat environment," said the Department of Homeland Security in a statement on Wednesday.
This statement comes a few weeks after the US told airlines to be on the alert for explosives hidden in toothpaste tubes on direct flights to Russia.
The first warning, which came on the 6th of February, was issued ahead of the Winter Olympics opening ceremony in Russia.
