Coach Luis Scolari's team did all they could to find an opening for a goal but it was not to be as the game ended in a stalemate.
It was the second scoreless draw witnessed in the competition, with the first one coming in the game between Nigeria and Iran.
Mexico stunned the home team with their composure, not giving the Brazilians any room to really impose their game.
The man of the match award without any doubt was Guillermo Ochoa in goal for Mexico, repelling everything thrown at him.
Ochoa made four stops that on another day would have ended in the back of the net,but he was strong and emerged his country's best player in the match.
Roared by the vociferous fans clad in the country's yellow apparel at the Fortaleza stadium, the Brazilian players tried not to disappoint them.
Neymar's header was immaculately tipped out by Ochoa in the first half, with Paulinho seeing his effort blocked again by the Mexican keeper.
The Barcelona player also came close in the second half, aiming a shot inside the box which Ochoa was equal to.
But the Mexicans didn't just sit back, they equally looked dangerous on the break, particularly with their long range strikes in the second half that really troubled Julio Cesar.
The pick of the bunch in all the saves came in the last ten minutes of the game,Thiago Silva thought he had won it when he headed a free-kick that was goal bound only for Ochoa to emerge with another good block.
Both Brazil and Mexico had to settle for the draw are tied on four points each with a point apiece in their next games most likely to guarantee qualification to round of 16.
