While most Nigerian especially the opposition would like to sit back and blame President Goodluck Jonathan for the misfortunes of former Adamawa Governor, Murtala Nyako, The CABLE examines 4 fatal mistakes the former governor made that got him booted out of office.
1. His Son's Governorship Ambition
Nyako allegedly wanted his son, Abdul-Aziz, to succeed him as Governor of Adamawa state. This is said to be the cause of the rift between Nyako and former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Bamanga Tukur.
2. The Atiku Snub
After his defection from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress, APC ,Nyako is said to have held on to power too tightly leaving no space for any other person even former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.
3. Choice of Chief Judge
Nyako played politics with everything including very public appointments. In 2012, he sent the name of one of his wives, Justice Binta to the National Judicial Commission (NJC) for approval as Chief Judge of the state. When she was rejected he dragged his feet on the appointment, a move which made him fall out with all senior lawyers in the state.
4.The Confrontation with President Jonathan
You certainly remember that public memo Nyako wrote to Northern Governor's Forum accusing President Jonathan of Genocide. That memo may be one of the reasons Nyako got impeached.
