The reins of the governance of Osun State seem to have been slipping away gradually from the hands of Governor Rauf Aregbesola as he publicly confessed that the inability to pay workers' salaries in the state is totally beyond his control.

According to a report on PUNCH newspaper on Friday, Aregbesola spoke with State House correspondence after holding a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Defence House in Abuja. Governor Aregbesola explained that the problem in the state is as a result of unexpected and sharp decline in revenue which made his administration to experience a dislocation.

The Governor said the current situation in the state has put him in quagmire and he sometimes feel like a head of family who cannot meet the needs of his family members.

Its such a shame. Without FG states can't cope. I'm very sorry about the plight of Osun workers. I pray something is done soon to end the terrible situation.

My problem with governors owing their workers salaries is that some of them have misplaced priorities. They enjoy the accolades that welcomes the so called good works they are doing in their states and have become short sighted of the impending dangers that awaits the lavish spending on such projects in the future.

Take Osun State for example, the government embarked on projects that are not so necessary. The distribution of Opon Imo, a device similar to iPad to primary and secondary school students in the state is not necessary. They can still learn with their notebooks and textbooks. He built model schools and the construction materials looks like the one used in building stadiums. As I traveled though Osun State about two years ago, I asked myself, where is this man getting his money from? Without exaggerating, the cost of building one of those schools can build 10 others with modest materials. Aregbesola wanted to turn Osun State to Rome overnight and he probably didn't know that Rome was not built in a day.

You have to ask yourself - (1) how did he win the elections if he hadn't paid people for that long? (2) Why did the opposition not campaign on this?

He was reelected Aug 9, 2014 but he has owed workers for 7 months now. This shows that he started owing after he won. PDP had several issues to campaign on but they left issues and were using religious sentiments to campaign.

Osun people deserve what they're getting. They re-elected him even when they didn't have to
