Come Saturday, September 10, 206 , residents of Edo state will elect a new Governor. The election is expected to be a tough one as the two major contenders; Godwin Obaseki of the All Progressives Congress, APC and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the People's Democratic Party, PDP are running almost neck to neck.
The APC needs a win in this election just as much as the PDP. Can the PDP swing this one ? .

1. To Prove that the party is not dead
The PDP currently is a party divided within itself. To many Nigerians , the PDP is dead. Winning Edo 2016 will help revamp the party's image and announce to the country that the PDP is ready to bounce back.
2. Fully secure the South South Nigeria
Presently Edo state is the only South-south state not governed by the PDP. Edo state is also home to APC national chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun. Victory for PDP in the Edo state means the that south-south Nigeria is totally under the Umbrella.
3. 2019 election
If the PDP wins Edo state on Saturday it will further boost it's chances of wining the 2019 election. President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday in Edo state said that a vote for Obaseki is a vote for him. If the PDP Captures Edo state on Saturday it will send out a message loud and clear to other parts of Nigeria "We're tired of change".
