As February 14th, the Nigerian presidential election date draws nearer, the two major candidates contesting for presidency General Muhammodu Buhari and President Goodluck Jonathan have been experimenting with different strategies to outsmart each other.

Many Nigerian entertainers, Nollywood and the music industry, have been involved in several political campaigns for the two presidential candiates either directly or indirectly.

Recently, President Goodluck Jonathan donated 2 billion Naira to Nollywood which was tagged as funding to support the fight against piracy just few weeks before the presidential election.

The President has been in government for six years and a bill to curb piracy has been handed to Nigerian lawmakers in the senate. But the president has never made any public statement to urge the signing of the bill considering the fact that most of the senators belong to the same party as the president.

Few weeks before elections, the president suddenly donates 2 billion naira to Nollywood to fight piracy while the bill in the senate is unattented to.

Saidi Balogun, a key player in the Yoruba movie line, recently stated in an interview that Nigerian entertainers run after politicians due to poverty.

One begins to wonder if the statement is not absolutely true as Nollywood actors, actresses, directors, producers etc. gladly accept the N2b without raising questions about issues affecting the country or the bill affecting their industry.

To hide their shame, Nollywood key players had a meeting with the president behind closed-doors on January 24, 2015 and the outcome was a 2 billion Naira in the name of curbing piracy.

While entertainers in the western worlds do not associate themselves with elections and political campaigns, its amazing how Nigerian entertainers have become beggars and puppets in the hands of Nigerian politicians.

Are Nigerian politicians truly running after politicians due to poverty? or are they just selfish, greedy, and feel unconcerned about the plight of the masses, and their industry?
