The Kaduna State Government has sent a Bill to the House of Assembly on its proposal to ban the sale of "ogogoro", a locally-brewed gin and other illicit substances announced the Commissioner for Information and Home Affairs, Mr Ben Bako, in Kaduna while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the state’s Executive Council meeting.

Bako said that a memorandum on the issue submitted by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice had been approved by the council.

He disclosed that the government was already collaborating with law enforcement agencies in the state to ensure strict enforcement of the law when it was promulgated.

According to him, “Gadegi”, another local brew, and Ogogoro have been major substances of abuse among youths in the state hence the need for the ban.

He said that sale and consumption of the illicit drinks accounted greatly to high crime rate in the state, adding that they were also dangerous to health.

The commissioner, therefore, solicited the support of the public in ensuring that the law was effective when ready, adding that the law would ensure that peace and low crime rate prevailed in the state.
