The former President of the nation of Mali, President Amadou Toumani Toure is currently under investigations to be tried for high treason by the government of Mali. The news was made known to the international community in a statement from the office of the current President, Oumar Tatam Ly, stating that they have presented the case to the highest court in the nation.

The former president was ousted by a military coup then fled to Senegal, leaving the nation in chaos and destruction. The Government spokesman, Mahamane Baby said Mr. Toure would be investigated for his role in the demoralisation of the Malian army by naming incompetent officers and soldiers of questionable loyalties as leaders in high level positions.

The coup was triggered partly by the anger incited due to government corruption and the government’s failure to adequately equip the armed forces of the nations.
