Delegates at the National Conference on Wednesday said that corruption must be adequately tackled if Nigeria was to achieve meaningful development.
They said there was no country that could develop where corruption strived.
Mr Abubakar Chika, a delegate representing Niger, said corruption has become the order of the day in the country.
"People have moved from stealing to looting, to mass looting. You find somebody looting money to the extent that if God grants him 500 years, he cannot finish it and he still continues looting the treasury.
"Where is he going with the money? I believe with our tradition, we don’t bury anybody with a dime",he said.
Chika suggested that the conference should advise Mr President to form a standing committee called, "truth and forgiveness committee" for people who have stolen the nation’s treasure to return them.
He also called for effective implementation of the country’s constitution as well as the setting of ethical and moral standard for the people.
Chief Francis Doukpolagha, who is representing Bayelsa, said for corruption to be tackled in Nigeria, it must be addressed from the grassroots.
"Let us fight it from our homes and gradually, we will be able to wipe it out,’’ Doukpolagha said.
Alhaji Magaji Dambatta, representing North West Geopolitical Zone, also stressed the need for the nation to be serious in fighting corruption, describing it as the root of Nigeria’s problems.
He paid tribute to the founding fathers of the country and other Nigerians who sacrificed in fighting for the development of the country, saying there was need to uphold their dreams.
Also contributing, Mr Yinka Dada, delegate of the National Association of Nigerian Students, called for attitudinal change among Nigerians to address the problems confronting the nation, including corruption.
