Joseph Olude, a 45-year-old pastor, Joseph Olude, and his church member, Rasak Raheem, have been arrested by the police over a robbery operation at Idiroko-Oke Odan, a border community between Ogun State, Nigeria, and the Benin Republic.
Both men were arrested by the Zonal Intervention Squad attached to the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, after a tip-off, Punch says. A businessman in distress reportedly put the call through to the police on Thursday, saying a robbery gang was attacking motorists along the road.
Olude, a father of five children, said he owned a church, Elohim Cherubim and Seraphim Church, in the Hunbe, Ajegunle area of Ogun State.
According to him, Raheem came to his church for a special prayer and he had nothing to do with him. He said he doesn't know that Raheem and his friend, one Bidemi, were armed robbers and that they kept guns on the church premises.
Raheem however dismissed this, explaining that the pastor knew everything and that he gave them space in his church to keep their guns.
